It’s common for people to open a business because they have a product to sell, or is a professional (accountant, physician, coach, attorney, dentist, massage therapist, hairdresser, etc.) who performs a service. They may have never wanted to be a businessperson, but in order to sell their product or provide
their service they need to form a business.
There are many aspects to creating and running a successful business, and they all must be addressed if it’s to be profitable. Areas such as structure, management, employee relations, strategy, creating a mission and business plan, marketing and customer service, might all
be areas with which the business owner is unfamiliar.
I’m an author, counselor and coach, so when I began my career, running a business was a new thing for me. However, it was necessary if I was going to be able to connect with the people who could benefit from my services. Fortunately I was able to go
to school and learn all that’s involved, but it was a long and winding path.
